With only a couple of days remaining before the conclusion of the transfer window, Fulham are expected to be very busy in an attempt to recruit a couple of new faces to the club. Having seen most of their relegation rivals strengthen their respective sides, Fulham manager Rene Muelensteen is said to be desperately looking to reinforce his squad as well.
The Cottagers were recently linked with a move for Valencia midfielder Sergio Canales and now reports have emerged that the club are also planning an ambitious double swoop for Olympiacos’ Konstantinos Mitroglou and FC Kaiserslautern’s Simon Zoller.
Mitroglou has certainly been the star player for Greek side Olympiacos in their charge to the top of the Super League table as well as the club’s safe qualification to the knock-out rounds of the Champions League, scoring 17 goals in 17 appearances so far this season.
Fulham will certainly have to work hard in order to secure the striker’s services though, with Olympiacos surely not keen on losing their most influential player. The Cottagers are said to be preparing a bid of around £12million for the striker in order to tempt the Greek side to part with Mitroglou.
However, even if Fulham are able to agree terms with Olympiacos, it will be very difficult for them to convince Mitroglou to leave a club challenging for honours in favour of a side fighting for their lives to avoid the drop and also coupled with the fact that the striker only recently signed a new three-year deal at the club.
Unlikely as it may seem, but if Fulham succeed in bringing Mitroglou to the club then the 25-year old can certainly fire the Cottagers away from the danger of relegation to a possible mid-table finish.
Young Simon Zoller is another name being linked with a move to the Cottage. Zoller has scored 10 goals in 18 appearances for Kaiserslautern this season in the second-tier of the German league and has slowly been attracting interest from various clubs.
Much like the Mitroglou situation though, Fulham will find it very difficult to tempt Kaiserslautern, who are currently chasing promotion, to part with their key player. Nonetheless, Meulensteen is said to be preparing a bid of around £5million for Zoller and the 22-year old certainly represents a more realistic target for the Cottagers than Mitroglou.
