Everton have made a massive signal of intent that they are looking to make a step up to the next level by smashing their club record fee to acquire the services of Belgian wonderkid Romelu Lukaku for a reported £28million this summer.
Apart from Lukaku, the Toffees have also completed a couple of astute signings in the form of talented young players such as Muhamed Besic, Brendan Galloway, Sam Byrne and David Henen while the return of the vastly experienced Gareth Barry is also a big boost for the club.
Despite making such a splash in the transfer market, Everton boss Roberto Martinez has stated that he is still looking to reinforce his side in various areas – with a winger his main priority at the moment.
Martinez is hoping to add a winger to the ranks at Everton |
It had been reported that the Spaniard was looking to strike a loan deal to sign Chelsea youngster Christian Atsu but the two parties have eventually pulled the plug on the potential transfer due to disagreement in conditions regarding the move.
As a result, Martinez has been forced to focus on other targets and it can now be revealed by Winner Sports that the 41-year old is preparing an ambitious move to sign Celta Vigo star Nolito.
Martinez has been a long term admirer of Nolito and had even sent scouts over to Carrow Road to closely monitor the 27-year old during Celta’s 2-2 pre-season friendly draw against Norwich City a few days ago.
It can be revealed that Nolito is being pursued by Everton |
An experienced player with bags of ability, Nolito enjoyed a fantastic season with Celta last year – where he scored 14 goals in 35 appearances and helped guide the club to a fine 9th placed finish. The 27-year old predominantly operates on the left wing but can also play behind the striker and Martinez is hoping to tempt his Spanish compatriot to join him at Goodison Park as he looks to strengthen his side’s attacking department.
While the addition of Nolito would be a huge coup for the Toffees, Celta’s valuation of the player could prove to be a stumbling block in any prospective move.
With the winger tied down to the Balaídos till 2017, it is believed that the Spanish side are holding out for a fee in excess of £8million and considering that Everton have already spent so much this summer – it remains to be seen whether the club hierarchy will be willing to match such a fee.
Nolito enjoyed a fine campaign with Celta Vigo last season |
After spending most of his youth career in the lower divisions of Spanish football, Nolito earned his big break at the age of 22 after earning a move to Barcelona. However, after failing to cement his place in the first team, the Spaniard moved to Portuguese side Benfica and made a big impact.
The 27-year old has continued his fine run of form for Celta as well and if Everton are able to pull off the transfer, he will be a major addition to the club’s ranks.
