Chelsea FC to replace Jose Mourinho with Guus Hiddink

Chelsea are considering making a move for Guus Hiddink as a potential replacement for the under fire Jose Mourinho

Chelsea’s campaign went from bad to worse after they suffered a shock exit from the Capital One Cup Round of 16 at the hands of Stoke City on Tuesday night and the defeat has unsurprisingly heaped more pressure on the shoulders of manager Jose Mourinho.

Mourinho has remained defiant that he will continue on as manager of Chelsea despite the Blues’ terrible run of form but the club hierarchy are said to be losing patience with the Portuguese tactician due to him being unable to inspire the Premier League side’s fortunes as well as due to his antics off the pitch.

Now many feel that it is just a matter of time before Mourinho is sacked by Chelsea and a host of clubs have already been linked with the managerial hot seat at Stamford Bridge.

Guus Hiddink wants Chelsea return

The likes of Carlo Ancelotti and Gary Neville have been mentioned as potential candidates to replace Mourinho but in recent times, the name of Guus Hiddink has also been mentioned.

Hiddink is a popular figure among the Chelsea faithful after guiding the club to the FA Cup title during his interim stay at the club in the 2008/09 Premier League season.

Currently a free agent following his departure from the Dutch national team, Hiddink has been touted with a sensational return to Chelsea and to fuel speculation regarding his return, the 68-year old has stated that he would be open to managing the Blues once again.

Speaking to Voetbal International, Hiddink said, “Top-class football is always attractive. I’ve had some offers come my way recently, but there were no jobs I wanted to get in to right away. We’ll see, we just have to wait now.”
