Brighton and Hove Albion FC to sign Steve Sidwell

Brighton and Hove Albion move closer to signing Steve Sidwell, with the midfielder being spotted during the Seagulls’ 2-1 victory over Huddersfield Town on Saturday

Sidwell has struggled for regular first team football at Stoke City since joining the club back in 2014 and the midfielder has been afforded only 12 minutes of action on the pitch at the Britannia Stadium during the current campaign.

Lack of minutes allied by the fact that his contract at Stoke is set to expire at the end of the current campaign has meant that many believe Sidwell will be leaving Stoke City before the end of the January transfer window.

A host of Championship clubs have expressed their interest in signing Sidwell and it had been claimed that high flyers Brighton and Hove Albion were considering a move for the 33-year old in the coming days.

Sidwell heading to Brighton

To further fuel speculation regarding his potential move to Stoke, Sidwell was spotted at the Falmer Stadium during Brighton’s 2-1 victory over Huddersfield Town on Saturday and it seems just a matter of time before the Seagulls wrap up a deal for the former Arsenal and Chelsea midfielder.

When asked about Sidwell’s presence at the stadium, manager Chris Hughton tried to diffuse the speculation by saying, “I’ve had a few people ask me that one, which I wasn’t aware of actually. The club are very good, they’ve looked after him today.

“He’s Bobby Zamora’s big mate. There’s been a few other people upstairs which I am quite sure have had no connection with the transfer window. I think probably that’s it.”

Nonetheless, Brighton are favourites to land the services of Sidwell this month and the transfer is most likely to come into fruition within the next week.
