Spanish giants Barcelona are plotting a surprise move for Newcastle United striker Ayoze Perez, according to reports from the Daily Mirror.
Given Newcastle United’s struggles over the past few seasons, there has understandably been very little for the club faithful to cheer about. Nonetheless, one of the few silver linings for the Magpies has been the performances of young striker Ayoze Perez.
Perez arrived at St. James’ Park from Tenerife during the summer of 2014 as a virtually unknown quantity to fans in England and has since managed to earn a reputation as one of the finest young strikers around Europe.
While his record of 13 goals in 71 appearances is by no means eye catching, Perez’s impressive all round performances for a struggling side has more than convinced many that the young Spaniard has the required set of skills in his repertoire to become a world class forward.
As a result, it has been no surprise whatsoever in seeing a number of top clubs linked with a move for Perez and the Daily Mirror have recently claimed that Spanish giants Barcelona are keen on making a swoop for the 22-year old.
Despite his undoubted talent, Perez is clearly not ready to earn a regular spot in the Barcelona starting eleven as of yet. That being said, if the striker is nurtured properly, there is no reason why he will not be able to become a regular at the Nou Camp in the foreseeable future.
The reports state that Barcelona want Perez as an understudy to their star trio of Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Neymar as well as a potential replacement for the want away duo of Sandro Ramirez and Munir El Haddadi. If the move does go through, Perez will most likely be spending a lot of time on the bench initially.
On the other side of the spectrum though, there is a potential that the youngster could eventually become a regular for Barcelona in the not too distant future and the transfer could prove to be beneficial for all parties involved.
