Arsenal close to signing Brazilian sensation Bernard

Arsenal are reportedly on the verge of signing Brazilian winger Bernard. The promising 20-year old winger has been linked to various clubs such as Tottenham, Liverpool, Borussia Dortmund and Porto but it seems like Arsenal have reached an agreement with Atlético Mineiro to purchase the pint-sized Brazilian. It has been reported that the Gunners have had a bid of around £21million accepted by the Brazilian club.

Bernard is regarded as one of the best young players in Brazil, with his reputation growing rapidly in the last few years. The 20-year old winger has already made 97 professional appearances in his career scoring 21 goals. He also has 5 international caps with the Brazilian National team.

Standing just 5 feet 4 inches, Bernard is a very quick and skillful player on the ball. Bernard had faced setbacks in his career due his small stature as he was released twice by Atlético Mineiro’s youth system due to his short height. But, he came back strongly and made a strong impression when he was loaned to Democrata FC from Atlético Mineiro. The winger made his first-team debut for Mineiro at the tender age of 18 and has gone from strength to strength to becoming one of the hottest young prospects plying their trade in the Brazilian league.

Despite Arsenal having been linked to a host of big names such as Gonzalo Higuain, Wayne Rooney, Luis Suarez and Cesc Fabregas in the transfer window, the Gunners have only secured the signing of French youngster Yaya Sanogo from Auxerre so far. If Bernard does arrive at the Emirates stadium, it will represent Arsenal’s first major summer signing of the season.
