Aleksandar Tonev was recently slapped with a seven match ban after he was found guilty of racially abusing Aberdeen defender Shay Logan and the wingers’ hopes of having the ban rescinded was also quashed after Celtic’s appeal was thrown out of the window by the Scottish FA.
Tonev has since returned to his native Bulgaria as he serves his suspension and there are doubts as to whether the winger will take further part in Celtic’s campaign.
While Celtic have launched a staunch defence of Tonev during the controversy, it is believed that the young winger wants out of Parkhead and to further fuel such speculation, his agent, Nikolay Zheynov, stated that the 24-year old is be on his way out of Scotland.
Tonev set for Celtic exit |
Tonev, who is on loan from Aston Villa, is attracting the interest of German Bundesliga strugglers Werder Bremen according to Zheynov and the winger could well be in line for a move to the Weserstadion in January.
Zheynov said, “Werder have again shown interest in Aleksandar but at this stage we don’t yet know whether the transfer will go through.
“It depends on how keen Villa are to sell him and whether he wants to go to Germany.”
Tonev could well be a set for an exit from Celtic to join Werder Bremen but it remains to be seen whether the winger will be allowed to escape his suspension even if he moves to Germany as the Scottish FA are likely to push for the 24-year old to be handed a worldwide ban.
