Former West Ham defender Neil Ruddock has expressed his negative opinions regarding new Hammers manager David Moyes, saying that the Scotsman looked like a broken man during his spell with Sunderland.
Moyes was recently hired as the replacement for outgoing manager Slaven Bilic in a controversial decision by the West Ham United hierarchy and many have hit back at the club owners for showing a lack of ambition with their appointment.
Although Moyes used to be one of the most respected managers in English football, the Scot’s stock has fallen dramatically following poor spells with Manchester United and Sunderland, and many now consider the 54-year-old to be out of ideas.
One of Moyes’s critics is former West Ham defender Neil Ruddock, who told during his time on air at talkSPORT that current Brighton manager Chris Hughton would have been much better managerial choice than David Moyes, who looked broken during his time at Sunderland.
He told, “As soon as I heard it was David Moyes, I just visualised him sitting on the bench at Sunderland – a broken man. I want him to do well at West Ham, I want him to prove the point he is a good manager, but in my mind’s eye I just see him sitting there at Sunderland.
“I would have gone for Chris Hughton. The club are alright paying £20m on a striker or midfield player who is not good enough, but they won’t spend £5m on a manager. To be fair, the West Ham fans are a bit ruthless and they can get on your back.
“I don’t think they’ve got enough men, I think every player has got five per cent more to give and David Moyes has got to find that. If he finds that five per cent more from every player, I think they’ll be fine.”
