Newcastle United’s renaissance has stuttered a bit in recent times and the Magpies were handed another huge blow after they succumbed to a disappointing 1-0 loss at the hands of bitter rivals Sunderland.
Now with the fixture list not getting any easier, Newcastle could be in danger of crumbling – similarly like they did during this time last season.
In order to avoid suffering such a fate, Newcastle manager Alan Pardew is said to be looking to recruit a couple of new players during the January transfer window.
A new striker seems to be the priority for Newcastle but an addition to the backline could also be on the cards and now according to reports, the Magpies are looking at the possibility of signing Anderl echt centre back Chancel Mbemba.
Pardew looking at Mbemba to strengthen his backline |
Mbemba has been one of the most consistent players for Anderlecht this season and has been very impressive so far.
Therefore, the 20-year old has been tipped to make a move to one of Europe’s top clubs in the near future and now Newcastle United are said to be looking to lure the young man to St. James’ Park in January.
Mbemba is valued at around £6million and Newcastle are said to be ready to match the asking price Anderlecht have placed on the defender.
Newcastle are currently light at the back as apart from the likes of Fabricio Coloccini, Steven Taylor and Mike Williamson, Pardew does not have too many options to choose from and the potential arrival of Mbemba would certainly be a boost for the Magpies.
